Ranieri won’t believe Leicester can win title until it is mathematically certain

first_imgClaudio Ranieri says he will refuse to believe Leicester City can win the Premier League until it is mathematically certain. The Foxes beat Watford at Vicarage Road thanks to a Riyad Mahrez stunner to move five points clear at the top of the league after title rivals Tottenham and Arsenal drew 2-2 in Saturday’s early kick off.Manchester City won to reinvigorate their title charge meaning it is a four-horse race with only nine games remaining. But Ranieri insists he and Leicester are taking it game by game and no one is believing they can win the title until it is a certainty they cannot be caught. When asked if he believes Leicester can win the title, Ranieri said: “Not yet. We are in a good position but I know we aren’t a Chelsea, a Manchester City, Arsenal or Tottenham.“This season we are building. It’s good to have a five point lead but it is not enough. I will only believe when it is mathematically [certain].”Ranieri praised his side’s resilience during the hard-fought 1-0 win away to Watford, saying the fight his players showed was exactly what he wants to see from his football teams.“I knew it was a battle and we fought a lot – as did Watford,” he said.“I wanted to see my players fight tonight, this is my idea of football. For us it is important to grow up and build the spirit and winner’s mentality.“This season has been okay and I don’t know what we can achieve.”last_img
