Syracuse (19-7, 7-6 Atlantic Coast) shot 11-of-19 from 3 in the first half on Thursday. The second half didn’t come as easily though. The Orange scored just 25 points in the final 20 minutes. But when it mattered, Tiana Mangakahia knocked down her fifth 3 and SU got a key stop. It was enough to upset No. 17 Duke (20-7, 9-5), 68-65, in a crucial win as the regular season winds down. Last night we hit on two underdog winners with the Rockies and the Mets, but we lost on our run line bet of the Dodgers. While LA won as -160 ML favorites, I got a little greedy and took them -1.5 at +130. While that didn’t pay off, I still like to take large favorites on the run line and will not be changing my strategy on that because of one tough beat. Tonight, we have an excellent slate of games that is headlined by the first Yankees-Red Sox matchup of the season that also features the best pitching matchup of the day between aces Chris Sale and James Paxton.Watch ChangeUp, a new MLB live whip-around show on DAZN Before we get into the picks, we have to remind you the best place to start researching for a winning ticket is the BetQL Mobile App. Our Trending Picks and Public Betting tools offer a big edge when you’re making bets, regardless of bankroll. Both teams will be throwing their best pitcher with Chris Sale and James Paxton taking the mound. Sale has struggled badly so far this season, and most concerning is that both his velocity and his location has been way off. The Yankees are slight favorites in this game at -115, and the BetQL models agree that this is what the line should be. I’m going to need to see a quality start from Sale before I’m able to jump on the Red Sox in one of his starts, so we will be taking the injury-depleted Yankees on the money line in this game.BetQL Pick: New York Yankees ML (-115)Houston Astros @ Oakland A’sStarting Pitchers: Collin McHugh vs. Marco EstradaMoney Line: HOU -165, OAK +140Run Line: HOU -1.5 (+100), OAK +1.5 (-120)Total: O/U 8.5The top value bet of the night is the A’s, who come in as sizable +140 home underdogs against the Astros. This is a fairly even pitching matchup between Astros’ starter Collin McHugh and A’s starter Marco Estrada. Houston is rolling right now with nine straight wins, but the BetQL models have handicapped this game as the A’s being slight -114 favorites playing at home. The A’s have played well at home so far this season, winning five of their past six games in Oakland. Another interesting bet in this matchup is the OVER of 8.5 runs, as these teams average a combined 9.5 runs per game this season.BetQL Pick: Oakland A’s ML (+140)New York Mets at Philadelphia PhilliesStarting Pitchers: Steven Matz vs. Nick PivettaMoney Line: NYM +100, PHI -120Run Line: NYM +1.5 (-200), PHI -1.5 (+170)Total: O/U 9 We hit a nice underdog winner last night on the Mets, who were able to beat the Phillies in extra innings, and we will be going right back to them tonight in the secon game of their series. The pitching matchup is fairly even between lefty Steven Matz and righty Nick Pivetta. Both pitchers are talented and have pitched well in spurts over their careers, but both also have the tendency to get lit up. The BetQL models are again seeing value on the Mets in the spot, likely due to their superior bullpen and greatly improved lineup following the additions of Robinson Cano and the emergence of Peter Alonso.BetQL Pick: New York Mets ML (+100)Check out BetQL Mobile App’s Trending Picks and Public Betting tools before making all your bets, and follow me on Twitter (@DFSBenj) for even more NFL, NBA, MLB and PGA daily fantasy and sports betting content.
