Man reportedly going to Wilmington homes to scam elderly residents

first_imgWILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say a man going around asking for money and claiming to be from a local church might not just be scamming people, but could be dangerous.Detective Robert Ferencak with Wilmington Police Department says people have reported a man going door-to-door on Evans Street claiming to be from Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and asking for money.- Advertisement – He says the church community got together and realized it was a scam.Ferencak says a video captured on a surveillance system shows the man adjusting what appears to be a gun.He says you can never be too careful when a stranger is at your door.Related Article: NC spectator’s courtroom curse lands her behind bars“It can really be all hours of the day, but especially at night, anybody coming up to the door that you don’t know, saying that they need help or they need money, just don’t even answer the door,” Det. Ferencak said. “Feel free to talk to them through the door, but if it’s somebody you don’t know, the best thing is to call 911.”Ferencak says the man appears to be targeting a neighborhood, mainly homes to elderly people.He says the man might be driving a grey Subaru wagon.If you know anything, call Wilmington police or use Text-A-Tip.last_img read more
