New York Jets Sign Ed Reed One Day After

Ed Reed was recently let go by the Houston Texans, but the free safety wasn’t unemployed for long. On Thursday, Reed officially joined the New York Jets.According to USA Today, “The New York Jets announced a contract agreement with Reed and expected to have the five-time all-pro and former defensive player of the year on the practice field today.”Reed and Jets head coach Rex Ryan  worked together before while the two were part of the Baltimore Ravens organization.“Reed and Jets coach Rex Ryan overlapped for seven years with the Baltimore Ravens, who employed Ryan as their defensive coordinator before he took the big promotion in New York following the 2008 season.”Antonio Allen and Dawan Landry are the Jets’ current starters at safety and even though it’s well pass the halfway point in the season, Reed still has time to get in the lineup.“Reed theoretically has time to work his way into the lineup as part of New York’s nickel and dime packages — while getting his legs underneath him if need be — and could play more center field, especially given Allen’s effectiveness at covering tight ends.”In this season so far, Reed made only 16 tackles in seven games. The defensive veteran has appeared in nine Pro Bowls and was at one time the NFL’s active interception leader.  However, this year Reed has failed to force a turnover or even defend a pass.Albeit, Reed still has value as an experience player with a Super Bowl win on his resume. He was fired on Wednesday and it took less than 24 hours to secure his latest job. read more

Five militants and one restaurant staff were killed and one suspected militant was arrested during the drive.A case was filed with Gulshan police station in connection with the terror attack. Later the case was shifted to Detective Branch of DMP. Now, Inspector Humayun Ahmed of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) has been investigating the case as its investigation officer (IO). The militants have no strength to carry out attacks like the one on Holy Artisan Bakery due to their weakening through anti-militant drives across the country, reports UNB.Monirul Islam, the chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, claimed this.”They may try to get reorganised again but we’ll hunt down the absconding militants, too,” he was quoted to have said during an interview with the news agency recently.Though the militants had been planning to do something again in March or during Ramadan but their efforts went in vein due to simultaneous anti-militant drives carried out since March this year, he said.”The terrorist attack on Twin Tower was the deadliest one for the USA. We can term Holey Artisan attack like ‘Twin Tower attack’ in our country,” said Monirul. The CTTC chief said the investigators have already identified the perpetrators involved in the attack. “The militants who went to the spot or directly involved in the attack, were killed on the spot,” he said.He said the militants who were directly involved in planning as well as to coordinate the attack have already been identified.”So far, eight militants who were involved in planning and coordination in the attack have already been killed in different places across the country during anti-militant operations in the last one year,” Monirul said.About financing in the Gulshan Bakery attack, Monirul said, “It seems that attack on the Holey Artisan Cafe; was a low-cost terrorism attack. It might cost Tk 8-9 lakh. They (militants) collected the money from their own sources. There was no need to collect money from foreign sources.”Replying to a question, the CTTC chief said firearms and explosives which were used in the Gulshan Cafe; attack were brought from Chapainababganj and Jessore.”We’ve already arrested Mizanur Rahman alias Boro Mijan from Chapainababganj. He was shown arrested in the Gulshan Cafe; attack case and he confessed to his involvement in supplying firearms and explosives for the attack.”He said investigators have already identified five suspected militants-Mizanur Rahman alias Chhoto Mizan, Sagar, Sohel Mahfuz, Rashed alias Rash and Basharuzzaman alias Chocolate-who were involved in the deadliest attack.last_img read more

Russia against foreign intervention in Myanmar

first_imgRussian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. AFP File PhotoAttempts at intervening in Myanmar’s internal affairs may have only one net effect – still deeper interreligious discord, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday, reports Russian news agency Tass.“It is essential to remember that the wish to intervene in the internal affairs of a sovereign state may merely bring about further inter-religious discord,” she said.Moscow supports “efforts for promoting the inter-religious dialogue in Myanmar among the spiritual leaders of all confessions.”“In that connection we took note of the collective statement by the leading organizations representing Myanmar’s multi-ethnic Muslim community who condemned armed actions by radical elements in that region (Rakhine),” Zakharova said. “We express support for the government and urge the coreligionists to avoid yielding to provocations by extremist forces.”Zakharova said Moscow welcomed the government of Myanmar in its efforts “to implement recommendations made by the commission under former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.”“In part, a special committee has been created for this purpose under the minister of social welfare, relief and resettlement, which incorporates officials of the law enforcement and economic agencies,” Zakharova said. Also, she pointed out that Myanmar authorities were “providing assistance to the internally displaced persons in returning to their homes.”“According to the available data about two thousand people have returned to their homes,” Zakharova said. “We expect that similar measures will be taken in relation to other persons affected by the migration crisis.”On the situation in the countryZakharova said Myanmar’s military transport aircraft were delivering foods, medicines and other relief aid to that area (Rakhine).“Mobile medical centers have been set up to provide assistance to the local population. Ruined infrastructure facilities are being repaired. A tour of the northern part of that area has been arranged for correspondents of local and foreign mass media,” Zakharova said. “We hope that journalists’ humanitarian access to the violence-stricken areas will become standard practice,” she said.Tensions in the state of Rakhine flared up on 25 August, when hundreds of militants of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army raided 30 police posts, the Tass report added.Clashes claimed 400 lives and another 391,000 Rohingya migrants had to flee from Myanmar to Bangladesh. The Rohingya people professing Islam reside in Myanmar’s State of Rakhine. The authorities regard them as illegal migrants from Bangladesh.Rakhine has repeatedly been a scene of religious conflicts between Muslims and local Buddhists. Violence there has left thousands dead over the past few years. According to the United Nations, The Rohingya people are one of the “most friendless” ethnic minorities in the world.
