Topofthegame ruled out for the season | Racing News

first_img– Advertisement – “I’ve scratched him from the Betfair (Chase) and Ladbrokes Trophy as I’ve just had to draw stumps for the season with him,” said Nicholls on Monday.“The warning lights have been flashing for the last couple of weeks. I was not happy with him last week and we had the vet scan him today and although there is no tear he just needs more time to recover, so we will leave him for the rest of the season and get him back for next season.“He had the tendon injury last season and he is still not strong enough to do full training. If we had carried on he would have broken down, but as we have stopped there is a good chance we will get him back for next season.- Advertisement – Paul Nicholls has been forced to rule his classy chaser Topofthegame out for another season.Winner of the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham in 2019, Nicholls had high hopes he would develop into a Gold Cup contender last season.- Advertisement – “We had done everything can, but when the warning lights come on you simply have to stop and after having him scanned this morning it confirmed what myself and Clifford (Baker) thought.”The Betfair ambassador added: “It’s part and parcel of the game and he was always going to be difficult as he is so fragile, but hopefully we will get him back for another day. We have lots of other horses for these races, but I’m gutted for his owners.” However, as his preparation for last year’s Ladbrokes Trophy was stepping up a gear he was halted by a leg injury. While the problem was nothing too serious, Nicholls felt a year on the sidelines would give him the best chance of returning this season – with the Ladbrokes Trophy again his aim – in tip-top shape.Unfortunately, with the Newbury feature just weeks away, the eight-year-old has been ruled out again.- Advertisement –last_img read more

South Africa retains ranking in 2015 Ibrahim Index of African Governance

first_imgMo Ibrahim, chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, at the launch of the 2015 Ibrahim Index of African Governance in London on Monday 5 October. (Image: Mo Ibrahim Foundation)Johannesburg, Tuesday 6 October 2015 – South Africa has retained its position in the 2015 Ibrahim Index on Africa Governance. In the 2015 Index, South Africa has retained its rank of 4 of 54 countries assessed in the Index. This follows South Africa’s improved performance in the 2015/16 World Economic Forum’s annual Global Competitiveness Index which saw South Africa rise seven places from 56 to 49 of 140 countries. The Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) measures the quality of governance in 54 African countries on an annual basis by looking at four areas: Safety and Rule of Law, Participation and Human Rights, Sustainable Economic Opportunity and Human Development. South Africa’s performance in each of these areas earns it the position of 7 (up from position 8 in 2014), 4, 2 and 6 respectively on the continent. Countries in the SADC region have also performed well in the 2015 Index.Brand South Africa CEO Kingsley Makhubela said, “We welcome South Africa’s performance in the 2015 Ibrahim Index of African Governance particularly in areas where improvements have been noted. The National Development Plan (NDP), together with various other instruments, will guide South Africa’s interventions to address other areas of concern including, amongst others, issues around personal safety.”“South Africa commends countries in SADC, in particular, on their performance in the Index. Although the 2015 IIAG indicates improved performance by countries on some indicators, we cannot under-estimate the urgency for the continent as a whole to implement Agenda 2063.”“All countries on the continent should have national programmes to drive their social and economic development. These programmes by African states will collectively contribute towards Africa’s plan for holistic socio-economic development.”“In this regard, we call on all South Africans in their different sectors to play their part in implementing the NDP which will be South Africa’s contribution to Agenda 2063. Continuous improvements in the various pillars identified in the NDP will translate into better performance by South Africa in various indices that assess our competitiveness and attractiveness as an investment destination,” concluded Mr Makhubela. [1] Please note that the ranking cannot be compared with previous years’ data. Annual refinements are made to the scores, and the entire IIAG dataset is revised retrospectively. Analysis above therefore draws comparisons between years based entirely on 2015 IIAG dataset. For more details on methodology, please see the methodology section of the IIAG website.last_img read more

We’ve also shared his awesome Need for Speed camera and lens breakdown several times. It shows great insight on how each shot was captured. After years of reading Shane Hurlbut’s Hurlbog, I recently joined Shane’s Inner Circle. The Inner Circle has now been around for just over a year, and the amount of comprehensive videos and articles took me by surprise. Perhaps the thing I found most valuable was the Inner Circle’s private Facebook group. Before going further into detail, here’s a look at how the Inner Circle was created and the content available to members. In 2009, Shane and his wife Lydia started the Hurlblog, a must-read resource for anyone learning all the aspects of cinematography. The goal of the site was to share Shane’s knowledge with fellow filmmakers. Articles covered lenses, gear, color grading, lighting techniques, and all stages of the production workflow. As the site grew in popularity, so did the demand for tutorials and detailed training. In response, Shane and the team at Hurlbut Visuals put together a new resource: Shane’s Inner Circle. The Inner Circle is an educational platform only available to members. The benefit of membership is not only gaining insight to practical techniques from Shane, but also the networking and helpful feedback from fellow members — all of whom are video pros and filmmakers.Shane’s Inner CircleShane’s Inner Circle is as an absolute beast. This site has fantastic resources available. New membership gives you access to an array of courses. After registration, you’ll get the latest content and an additional 20 articles and videos. Prior courses are available for purchase. There are six types of courses available to learn from. This makes it easy for you to read articles, watch videos, or throw on a podcast while on the move. The goal is for you to learn everything you need to know to master cinematography.1. On Set With ShaneThis is exactly what it sounds like. They include lens choices, composition, lighting, and exposure.3. Camera Profiles & LUTSGain access to the picture profiles and LUTS that Shane has used on set. You’ll be able to use the same profiles he used on films like Act of Valor and Need for Speed, television shows like Into the Badlands, as well of those he used on over 150 commercials. These will allow you to get the most out of your sensor.4. Lighting TechniquesThese lighting fundamentals will cover everything from how to light a set, when to add (or takeaway) light, and the schematics Shane uses.5. Gear TestsShane and his team will rigorously review cameras and gear to help you choose the right sensor and lens for your project. They perform side-by-side comparisons, cover sensors, exposure, dynamic range, ISO noise, IR pollution, rolling shutter, slow motion, and more. Lens tests look at highlights, color, contrast, sharpness, and bokeh.6. Monthly PodcastsThe monthly podcast covers all sorts of topics, as well as answering questions from members. Shane covers everything from career advice to new technology. I’ve been enjoying the podcast during my daily commute. It’s a great way to take in information while away from the computer.7. Two killed in North 24 Parganas district as violence continues in West Bengal

first_imgAt least two people were killed and three others severely injured when bombs were hurled at them late Monday night in the Kankinara area of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, police said on Tuesday. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) claimed that the victims were supporters of the party and were targeted by miscreants hired by the BJP, a charge denied by the saffron party. The two deceased were identified as Mohammed Mukhtar and Mohammed Halim. Three people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident, the police said. State minister and TMC’s district president Jyotipriya Mallick alleged that the victims were targeted by miscreants hired by the BJP because they had voted for the ruling party in the state in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections. BJP MP of Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency Arjun Singh, however, rubbished the allegations, saying that the incident was the result of a family feud and has no connection with politics. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday at around 1 am in Baruipara, which is part of the Barrackpore Lok Sabha constituency, when family members of Mr. Mukhtar were sitting outside, according to officials.“Halim died on the spot, while Mukhtar succumbed at the hospital. A critically injured Mukhtar’s wife is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital along with two others,” a senior police officer said. Following the incident, a huge number of policemen, along with RAF personnel, have been deployed in the area. When contacted, state Assistant Director General (Law and Order) Gyanwant Singh said that he was collecting detailed information about the incident. Meanwhile, the BJP claimed on Monday night that a supporter of the party was strangled to death allegedly for chanting “Jai Shri Ram” by workers of the TMC in the state’s Howrah district. Though police confirmed the death of 43-year-old Samatul Doloi, whose body was found in a field in Sarpota village under the Amta Police Station limits, they did not give away the cause of the death.last_img read more

Haryana Assembly elections: RPI to contest 10 seats, support BJP in 80

first_imgRepublican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athawale on Friday said that his party would contest 10 Assembly seats in Haryana and support the BJP on the other 80 seats.Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mr. Athawale was here to review schemes pertaining to his Ministry.“In Haryana, we are not very strong but we want to contest at least 10 seats in the upcoming Assembly polls. We will be contesting against the Congress and by fielding our candidates, we will only be helping the BJP. Also, all our candidates who will win, would support the BJP government,” he told reporters.Calling Narendra Modi a “dashing” Prime Minister, Mr. Athawale said the decision to abrogate Article 370 was historic and one which Pakistan could not digest. “Pakistan has been unsuccessfully trying to rake up the Kashmir issue. It (Pakistan) should now hand over PoK to us as it would be in Pakistan’s interest.”There is complete peace in the Valley since the Article 370 decision, he said, adding “The decision would help remove all obstacles in the path of development in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Development will now speed up as many of the central schemes and laws, which earlier could not be enforced will now be implemented.”He said that the Union Territory status given to Jammu and Kashmir was only “temporary”. “Once the situation returns to full normalcy, statehood will be given to J&K,” he said.last_img read more
