Tonight’s interview was described as being an “Inside the Actor’s Studio” type of event. The first part will be about Hedren and the second will be about the Shambala Preserve, according to Linda Grimes, president and executive director of the Golden State Pops Orchestra, which performs at the theater. “We thought this would be a perfect way for (the Roar Foundation) to let a whole new constituency know about their cause, and do something wonderful for the theater,” Grimes said. Hedren’s big break in Hollywood came during her work with Hitchcock in the 1960s. She helped found the Roar Foundation in 1983 and currently lives in a cottage on the Shambala Preserve, which was originally part of the set for the 1981 film “Roar.” It is now a behavioral research center and sanctuary that is home to 70 exotic animals. The big cats are from zoos, circuses or private owners who could not take care of them. [email protected] By Rachel Jones STAFF WRITER Tonight the Warner Grand Theatre will host an interview with actress Tippi Hedren, best known for her role as Melanie Daniels in Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds.” Proceeds will benefit the Roar Foundation, a non-profit founded by Hedren that supports the Shambala Preserve, home to many large cats. The event was originally supposed to be a performance of A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated “Love Letters,” but the play was canceled due to scheduling conflicts with actor Ken Howard, who was to perform alongside Hedren. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
